L'IMAGINARI DE LLUÍS PEÑARANDA

Lluís Peñaranda és un artista amb arrels en l'ample i rica cultura mediterrània, amb tot el llegat de la seva mitologia; i precisament amb aquest clàssic llinatge mític, fa que es pugui trobar certes analogies del que fou el moviment del surrealisme. Semblaria propera l’harmonia amb aquest moviment per la manifestació de l'inconscient, del món dels somnis, atrapats a la interpretació espontània o reflexiva. Hi ha una clara relació entre la seva obra i la d’en Víctor Brauner, artista romanès, on la llibertat d’imaginació, queda presa en el fons del traç i de les imatges d’on s’inspira, les fonts primigènies i clàssiques: això també és una constant en el món d’en Peñaranda; treballa intuïtivament la reflexió, percep l’encontre del que és d’aquí i al mateix temps és d’allà, les històries circulars revelades en la seva obra.

A vegades l'atzar és un recurs que utilitza com a punt d’arrancada un tros de cordill, un paper llençat. Això o pot incorporar com a collage, o també pot cosir litaralment els suports, els paper, de manera que l'ús dels diferents elements d’una manera inesperada i de sorpresa donen humor al seu imaginari. El seu treball, en el suport del cavallet, arran d’ulls, invita a l'espectador a compartir la intimitat amb els seus personatges, immediatament accentuats per la seva proximitat a la superfície, tant a prop que semblen acabats de sortir de la imaginació. La qualitat s'expressa per la línea amb molta precisió, suggerint d'una manera màgica el tacte de vellut que donen els gravats de punta seca. La superfície es manté tensa, queda però alleugerida per la reverbaració del color, pigment alliberat, il·lumina el conjunt dels dibuixos i permet que l’ull viatji o vagi per l'atmosfera creada.

Peñaranda ens convida a endinsar-nos, a explorar secrets plens d’al·lusions líriques i poètiques, on canta la  imaginació i és creada, com observà el crític Clement Greemberg, parlant de Paul Klee, de la totalitat de si mateix.

THE IMAGERY OF LLUÍS PEÑARANDA

Lluís Peñaranda is an artist with roots in the breadth of Catalan culture and the wealth of the Mediterranean with all its attendant mythology; and it is precisely this classical, myth-imbued linkage that invites certain analogies between his work and that of the Surrealist movement. His close harmony with Surrealist thought is shown by his use of the unconscious, of the dream world, wich is subject to both spontaneous and studied interpretation. There are clear parallels between his work and that of Victor Brauner, the Rumanian-born artist, whose freedom of imagination, reflected by a richness of line and image, draws on both primeval and classical sources: this, too, is a constant in Peñaranda’s world which perceives the meetin of that which is both from here and elsewhere, where reflection intuitively moulds the stories that his work unfolds.

Often the element of chance is used as a departure point - a piece of string, a thrown paper: these may be incorpored through collage or even from sewing the paper, so that the use of these different elements in unexpected manners, lends wit and surprise to his imagery. The easel painting scale of his work invites the viewer to a shared intimacy with the imaginary characters, whose immediacy is accentuated by their closeness to the surface: we see them close up, as if freshly released from the imagination. They have a fairy-tale quality that expresses itself very precisely, through the use of line, in a manner suggestive of the velvet touch associated with drypoint etching. This holds the surface in a tension that is relieved by the immediacy of the colour. And the deliberation witch  which colour is applied in the paintings, highlight the whole, allowing the eye to travel

or to linger in the atmosphere created.

Peñaranda invites us to step within, to explore secret worlds of poetic and lyrical allusion, where his imagination sings; and that is created, as the critic Clement Greemberg said of Paul Klee, from the totality of himself.

Lluís Peñaranda refuse de réduire la richesse du réel à une ligne pure et attendue et nous impose son sens de l’absurde qui nourrit son inspiration. Exaspéré, sans doute, par les hypocrisies, les conformismes et les suivismes, l’artiste nous oblige à nous confonter au monde tel qu’il est dans un délire poétique salvateur. Comment ne pas penser alors à la disparition récente de Roland Topor qui écrivait: “l’image inventée n’est jamais traumatisante, c’est toujours un conte de fées. Il n’y a que la réalité qui puisse choquer?”.
